Saudi Arabia has expressed its approval of a United Nations Security Council statement condemning the recent escalation of Houthi attacks targeting the Kingdom. The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed the nation’s right to defend its territory, citizens, and residents under international law, following the Security Council’s condemnation of attacks on civilians and critical infrastructure.

In a statement, the Security Council specifically denounced attacks on King Khalid International Airport on October 10 and 11, which reportedly resulted in deaths and injuries. The council also condemned attacks on other Saudi airports and facilities belonging to Saudi Aramco, extending condolences to the victims’ families and urging the Houthis to cease military escalation and attacks against civilians.

Furthermore, the Security Council emphasized the importance of fully implementing Resolution 2216, adopted in 2015, and subsequent resolutions. It called for enhanced international cooperation to prevent the transfer of weapons, military equipment, and other forms of support to the Houthis, urging collaboration with Yemen’s internationally recognized government.

In addition to addressing attacks on land, the Security Council condemned Houthi threats against commercial shipping in the Red Sea and the Bab Al-Mandab Strait. The council stressed the need to protect vessels, their crews, and international maritime navigation from such threats.

The Security Council reiterated its support for Yemen’s internationally recognized government, emphasizing the country’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. It also expressed continued backing for UN Special Envoy Hans Grundberg and ongoing diplomatic efforts to achieve a comprehensive political settlement in Yemen.
