Saudi Arabia is bracing for an unusually hot summer in 2026, as indicated by recent seasonal climate forecasts from the National Center for Meteorology. The projections suggest that temperatures will exceed normal levels across all regions of the Kingdom, with some areas experiencing significantly higher heat than usual. Meanwhile, rainfall is anticipated to be around or below the usual levels in parts of the country.
For the month of June, rainfall across Saudi Arabia is expected to remain close to the seasonal norm. However, the situation may change in July, with predictions of below-average precipitation affecting regions such as Jazan, Baha, Asir, Makkah, Najran, and the Eastern Province. Other areas are likely to experience rainfall within the normal range, as per the forecasts.
In terms of temperature, June could see increases reaching up to 1.5°C above normal in several regions, including Jazan, Baha, parts of Makkah and Asir, as well as Madinah, Riyadh, Qassim, Hail, and Tabuk. These areas are expected to endure some of the most significant temperature rises during this period.
The heatwave is set to intensify in July and August, with temperatures potentially rising by as much as 1.6°C above average in Jazan, Baha, and parts of Asir and Makkah. This escalation makes these regions some of the hottest in the country for the upcoming summer, highlighting the need for vigilance and preparation.
In light of these forecasts, meteorological officials have called on the public and relevant sectors to stay informed through official weather updates and forecasts. This guidance aims to ensure that necessary precautions are taken to manage and mitigate the impact of the anticipated hot weather conditions effectively.
